Praying Towards Taiwan

Shawn and Lucy (15 months old), February 2015

My heart is overwhelmed today. It is so humbling that God has called us to adopt vulnerable children and offer hope to moms who cannot parent. We are so encouraged by the financial support of fellow Christians who have a heart for caring for the fatherless as well. God loves children, and it is so exciting to me that even those who are not specifically called to adoption or foster care, to traveling overseas or to working with at risk children can participate in an equally vital way by using the resources God gives them to care for the children that he loves so much. We are not all chosen for the same task, but we are all called to sacrificial giving of everything we are and have. Mark 9:37 has become very dear to me as I pray for our next child. Jesus says, “Anyone who welcomes a little child like this on my behalf welcomes me, and anyone who welcomes me welcomes not only me but also my Father who sent me.”

We have currently applying to adopt from Taiwan through an organization called Taiwan Xi En*. They are a Christian crisis pregnancy and Children’s home in Kaohsiung City, Taiwan. Taiwan Xi En means Hope and Grace which is what we as Christians have received Jesus Christ and are commissioned to share with others. We are excited about what this agency stands for. They are offering moms and children redemptive love through support to parent their own children or adoption for when parenting is not an option. Prioritizing first families and offering support for family preservation is important to us as adoption is not necessarily the best response to a crisis pregnancy.

Taiwan Xi En describes their work and the situation in Taiwan like this: “Taiwan is a country where unmarried pregnant women are offered no hope or grace. In Taiwan, abortion is accepted, available, and encouraged through the second trimester of pregnancy. In this country, unmarried mothers are shunned and told that their children have no value. Taiwan Xi En exists to offer unwed mothers the opportunity to experience hope and grace for themselves and for their babies and to know that true healing, hope, grace, and peace can come only from knowing the Prince of Peace, Jesus Christ.”

It is so exciting for us to apply for an adoption through an agency that so closely reflects our hearts desire. Please pray with us as we finish our dossier preparations and wait to be match with a child.

We thank you for your love and prayers. I had an opportunity to share my testimony with our youth group and was again reminded of how much Lucy’s adoption and health grew my faith- and I can so clearly see it growing again.

*Taiwan Xi En has since since ceased to exsist in this form. I believe it may still function as an orphanage, but the leadership has shifted greatly. A new organization has begun under the origonal leadership called One Hope Taiwan, they run a children’s home and adoption agency for special needs children in Kaohsiung, Taiwan called Freedom House.
